Magic Wand Vibrator- The Backstory
The Hitachi Magic Wand has a long and storied past that is definitely worth the read. Hitachi released it in the US in 1968 as a massage tool but Betty Dodson and others in the progressive sex-positive movement of the late ’60s and ’70s quickly popularized it as a sure-fire way to reach orgasm. Unfortunately, Hitachi was never comfortable with its preferred use but it did continue to sell the device with the Hitachi brand name attached until 2013. At this point, the prudish Hitachi executives won out and decided to stop manufacturing the device. This is when Hitachi’s US distributor, Vibratex, stepped up and convinced Hitachi to continue manufacturing under a new name, Original Magic Wand. Hitachi continues to manufacture the device to this day but with the removal of any mention of the Hitachi brand. Vibratex made a slight adjustment to the name in 2014 to Magic Wand Original which is still the product name today. Additional versions have also been introduced such as the Magic Wand Plus and the Magic Wand Rechargeable.
Magic Wand Original

Corded version with two speed settings, high and low. This is the work horse version that has been around since the late 1960’s with little changed. Note that its head is not Silicone.
Magic wand plus

Corded version with Silicone head and four intensity levels with the highest comparable but technically just higher than the Magic Wand Original (6300 Vibrations per Minute). It’s cord is removable but, don’t be confused, it will not function without the cord attached and plugged into a power source.
Magic wand rechargeable

Cordless version with Silicone head, four intensity levels (Same as Plus version), and an additional four vibration patterns. It can be charged using the cord and then unplugged to use wirelessly. If the charge runs out, it can also be plugged into a power source for charging while in use. It

SLC History with the Hitachi Magic Wand
We (SLC- SexLoveCoffee) bought a Hitachi Magic Wand (original corded version) more than ten years ago and it has given thunderous vibrations that just don’t stop for years upon years and orgasm upon orgasm upon orgasm. This product is quality and just keeps buzzing and buzzing. We’ve had some fun with a few attachments for both men and women but what has always made this vibrating wand so popular is its steady rumbling vibrations. The only improvement that I was looking for was to have more speeds than simply High and Low which has now been solved in the Plus and Rechargeable versions. I actually bought a variable speed/power dial that could be used with the Hitachi Magic Wand Original to slowly turn the power up and down and have whatever speed you want. This worked great until the dial died after about five years and the other issue is that it just means you are dealing with a lot of cords and devices which just isn’t that sexy.
The Magic Wand Rechargeable Upgrade
The reality is that our Hitachi Magic Wand is still working perfectly (background vibrator with yellowing head 🙂 ) but, after 10+ years, it was just starting to look a bit old and since it doesn’t have the Silicone head, the head had begun to fade to more of a yellow (not the most desirable color in sex toys). Also, with the variable speed attachment now broken, it was back to having only two speeds and I had always found the cord management a bit of a turn-off. So, I decided it was time for an upgrade and I didn’t think twice about forking over the $125 bucks or so to get it; The Magic Wand Rechargeable.
His Thoughts
I have no regrets about purchasing the Magic Wand Rechargeable. Our Hitachi Magic Wand original was over 10 years old and had always been one of our go-to sex toys. If she wanted to cum fast it was perfect. If she was having a hard time “getting there,” it put her over the edge in a hurry. If she had already came and wanted more, it was usually able to do the trick. And, if we wanted to add it into the mix while having sex, there are so many positions that work extremely well. Now, with the Magic Wand Rechargeable, it does all of those same things but even better. The added vibration intensity settings give a much better way to ramp up intensity than the old Low/High while the patters add some variation/options. But the best part is the freedom that you have without being tethered to the wall while having the same level of power (actually a bit more). This means that solo or as a couple you can flip, turn, hand-off control, etc. without ever needing to worry about the cord wrapped around your leg or caught in the sheets.
Her Thoughts
I loved the old Hitachi and this new one is even better. I really just like the steady buzz intensity settings so the patterns aren’t that interesting to me. However, HE actually tried them out the other day (solo) and found that he was able to cum with the fourth setting; a pattern that builds slowly in constant intensity and then drops down low again, over and over. Note that vibrating wands like this feel good to him but have never been something that makes him cum as they become just a bit too intense (numbing). The cordless feature with the same deep pounding thud of a vibration is the real thing that makes this a keeper. I always found the cord annoying but it felt so good I didn’t complain too much. Now it’s perfect. Oh, plus it now has much softer Silicon head that is designed for good safe clean-up (sex toy materials) and feels really good in use (the older version could be a bit too hard).
Magic Wand Rechargeable Settings/Use
There are 3 buttons: Power On/Off, Steady Vibration Intensity, and Patterned Vibrations. The four vibration speeds are just enough variation that you have enough smaller incremental steps to increase or decrease vibration (not just high and low). If I was to critique anything it would be that it could add another few vibration intensity options to get even smaller increments when ramping up/down but four is much better than two. The four vibration patterns are something altogether different and new. Keep in mind that vibration intensity has four levels of constant buzz, while vibration patterns allow for vibrations that start and stop or ramp up and down in a pattern. It’s a little confusing at first but just remember that if you push the vibration intensity button you are choosing to have a constant vibration at different intensity levels. On the other hand, if you push the Vibration pattern button you will get a distinctly different pattern with each push (4 options). Note that you cannot pick a pattern and then pick the intensity for it, as you either pick a steady buzz of 1, 2, 3, 4 level intensity or a predetermined pattern, 1, 2, 3, 4, options, that is always the same intensity.
